THE WORST SIGN EVER
IN THE HISTORY OF SIGNS

The following large, vertically-oriented street-side sign
is located on Lakewood Boulevard on the border of
Long Beach and Lakewood, CA

I pass this large, vertically-oriented street-side sign
at least once a week, either by car or by foot...

And every time I pass the sign I tell myself (internally)
that it is indeed the worst sign ever in the history of signs.

Please continue reading....

Here's the worst sign ever...photographed from the north.
Please note the precarious and almost teetering positioning
of the sign on a standard long patch of green grass.

As we come closer, please note the strange design
of the sign - the sign is very much vertically-oriented
with some sort of Kleenex box-shaped thing at the top
which doesn't seem to be a light and which doesn't
seem to serve any purpose at all.

And now, we can clearly see the graphic elements on this side
of the sign - large blue letters spell out the name LONG BEACH
while an extremely long representation of a sailboat
and a seagull cavort together over a heavy,
fake woodgrain background

And now here's the other side of
the worst sign everĀ in the history of signs.

As sides of signs go, this is perhaps the worst side of
the worst sign ever in the history of signs. From this distance,
it's easy to once again spot the heavy, fake woodgrain background
as (once again) the sign appears to teeter dangerously.

On closer inspection, please note a large faded City of Lakewood sticker
near the top...and underneath (in cursive, hand-painted lettering)
is the cautionary phrase "Please drive safely" which is
unreadable at practically any distance and which
is definitely unreadable by passing cars.

Closer view of the phrase "Please drive safely"
hand-painted over heavy, fake woodgrain background
which is basically unreadable by anyone anywhere.

Well, that's it...yeah, worst sign ever - - KB
